In this robotically automated polishing demonstration, a FANUC R-1000iA/80F robot polishes metal tool boxes using a number of features unique to a FANUC Robotics automated system. The robot uses iRvision to locate and pick a metal tool box and present it to a polishing wheel. This R-1000iA Gakushu robot is equipped with FANUC's Learning Vibration Control feature, or LVC. With this feature, the software records the robot's path characteristics several times, allowing the robot to optimize the path data and improve cycle time.
After polishing the tool box, the robot showcases the higher speed and smooth motion provided by LVC. The robot performs a series of movements without LVC, and then a series with the LVC feature. The R-1000iA is also more energy efficient than robots with larger payloads, allowing for greener facilities by using less energy for costly utilities.
Finally the robot picks up a second metal tool box and transfers it to the polishing wheel. The robot uses FANUC's FS-100iA Force Sensor to apply appropriate polishing pressure to the box. Upon completion of the second box, the cycle repeats.
