How Machine Vision Works
Vision robot systems use one or more cameras that are integrated into the robot controller. The cameras, sometimes in connection with a laser system, locate objects in the field of vision. Utilizing many programmed algorithms, the machine vision software identifies the piece after comparing it to given criteria. After identifying the piece, the robotic arm then moves its end of arm tooling so that becomes aligned with the identified piece. This allows the robotic arm, robot controller, and other robot software to handle and inspect each piece, enhancing the complete potential of the flexible manufacturing system. When appropriately installed and programmed, vision guided robots can replace multiple mechanical tools and hard automation systems with a single robot workcell, leading to a dramatic cost savings.
