In this sand core coating application, a FANUC M-2000iA robot uses iRVision 2D to locate and pick two halves of an assembled sand core.
This system was designed and integrated by Ellison Technologies. The M-2000iA robot combined with iRVision provides a cost savings for this application compared to custom automation. iRVision identifies and locates the cores, eliminating the need for a mechanical devices to force the 800lb cores into a consistent location for picking. The M-2000iA robot dips the assembled sand core into a coating solution. Once removed from the coating solution, the cores are rotated to remove excess coating material. The cores are then placed on a conveyor belt which takes the cores through a drying oven.
