Are FANUC Robotics procedures for parts repair different from Industry? If so, how?

FANUC Robotics, along with FANUC America and GEFanuc Automation (“FANUC”) are the only companies authorized in North and South America to perform component repair of parts produced by FANUC Ltd. FANUC Robotics is the only company in North and South America authorized to perform repairs to FANUC Ltd. produced parts, which are unique to the standard robot products.
The reasons that only the above mentioned companies are authorized to perform component part repairs include the following:
- No other company can validate that their repairs will continue to allow the robot to operate within the guidelines set forth for Safety.
- Repairs performed utilize only FANUC approved parts, components, and procedures to ensure optimum conformance to manufacturing specification.
- Only FANUC can ensure that component parts are repaired and upgraded when possible to the most current specifications and revisions levels, which further improves part quality.
- Repairs performed are tested beyond simple bench testing. Components are tested on actual controllers and robots to validate conformance to specification. Actual performance data is validated to specification and recorded for future reference and in conformance to ISO/QS/TE9000 standards.
- Only FANUC can completely analyze root cause for component part failure. This means that FANUC will not just repair the symptom, but they will repair the actual problem to prevent further down time caused by incomplete repair practices.
A further benefit to customers includes the fact that FANUC collects all data from all repairs, and utilizes this information to make future products even more reliable and documentation more complete and accurate. If customers are sending component parts to other repair companies, then valuable data is not retrievable.

What are FANUC Robotics lead times for new and/or refurbished parts?

Lead times for new or refurbished parts for products older that seven (7) years may be longer than normal part shipment performance. Normal part shipment performance goals for ALL ages of FANUC robots are defined as follows:
- 1: Parts for down production robots are typically shipped within 24 hours or less.
- 2: Parts for replenishment orders are typically shipped within three (3) weeks.

How long will FANUC Robotics make new or refurbished parts available to customers to continue the support of its standard robot products still used in production?

FANUC Robotics will supply new or refurbished parts to support standard FANUC robot products sold as long as the individual component parts are still available from its suppliers and/or as long as FANUC Robotics can affect repairs that conform to specifications.
Typically high volume, standard FANUC Robot products can be successfully supported with new or refurbished parts for 10 to 15 years. Some older, low volume, standard FANUC robot products may be difficult to support for components not common with other FANUC robot products. FANUC Robotics, upon request, will review a customer’s actual installed base to evaluate if any standard FANUC robot products may be at risk of becoming difficult to support due to obsolescence of suppliers’ parts. As an example:
- FANUC Robotics has been successful in putting plans in place with customers to extend the useful and supported life of select standard products for as long as 20 years (Reference: S-380 Robots shipped in 1983 are being rebuilt new and supported with parts through the year 2003).
FANUC Robotics believes that, working as a team, customers can potentially achieve similar success in extending the useful life of the FANUC robots used in their plants.

Repair of Parts:

- 14 Days or less delivery, upon receipt of part and P.O.
- Special (faster) delivery may be requested, pending availability of repair pieces, prompt delivery of parts to be repaired, and receipt of P.O. Repair time includes cleaning, evaluation, repair, testing, and burn-in. Due to the steps involved, repairs may take longer than 24 hours to complete.

Are there any applicable Governmental Regulations or Guidelines, which apply to FANUC Robotics component parts repair policy or procedures?

FANUC Robotics is not aware of any specific Governmental Regulations or Guidelines that affect our overall policy and/or procedures or to which we do not already comply. Additionally, FANUC is ISO/QS/TE9000, which includes procedures supporting the new, refurbished, and component repair parts activities.
Most customers are concerned with the length of time that a company, such as FANUC Robotics, will continue to make parts available for obsolete products. Many believe that there are regulations dictating the length of time parts should be available, typically seven (7) years, but FANUC Robotics has found that this length of time is too short due to the longevity of its products. |
